Brachiosaurus

1. Name Meaning
The name Brachiosaurus means "arm lizard", because its front legs were longer than its back legs—unusual for a dinosaur.

2. Long Neck
Brachiosaurus had a very long neck, allowing it to reach high into trees to eat leaves that other herbivores couldn’t reach.

3. Size
It was one of the largest dinosaurs, growing up to 85 feet (26 meters) long and weighing as much as 60 tons.

4. Tall Stance
Because of its long front legs and upright neck, it stood much taller than most other sauropods.

5. Time Period
Brachiosaurus lived during the Late Jurassic Period, around 154 to 150 million years ago.

6. Herbivore
It ate plants, likely including conifers, ginkgoes, and tree ferns.

7. Skull Shape
It had a small head with large nostrils located on top of its head—possibly to help it smell better.

8. Habitat
Fossils have been found in North America, mainly in the Morrison Formation, including Colorado and Utah.

9. Posture Misconceptions
Early reconstructions showed Brachiosaurus standing like a giraffe, but now scientists believe its neck was more horizontal than vertical.

10. Breathing Power
Its huge body would have required efficient lungs, possibly with air sacs like modern birds.

11. Tail
It had a long tail for balance, but not as whip-like as in some other sauropods.

12. Social Behavior
Scientists aren't sure if Brachiosaurus lived alone or in herds, but some sauropods are believed to have moved in groups.

13. Not the Biggest
Although once thought to be the biggest dinosaur, later discoveries (like Argentinosaurus) are now known to be larger.

14. Popular in Pop Culture
Brachiosaurus became famous from movies like Jurassic Park, where it was the first dinosaur shown in the film.

15. Fossil Rarity
Despite its fame, complete Brachiosaurus skeletons are rare; many reconstructions use bones from related species.
